Mind Set Art Center will present Fluid Permeation, the first cross-disciplinary collaboration between artist Yang Yu-Ning and fuyue, an independent designer label, opening on May 30. Centered on the notion of fluidity, the project transforms static brushstrokes on a flat surface into dynamic visual fields that unfold in relation to the movement of the body. Yang’s ink permeates fuyue’s tailored structures, allowing art to extend beyond the pictorial frame and generate new dialogues and renewed vitality within the realms of everyday life and material expression.
Yang Yu-Ning’s practice reflects a distinct sensibility toward life and temporality characteristic of a younger generation. Through the diffusion of aged ink on mulberry paper, she captures the trajectory of thought in a single, unrepeatable gesture. In her recent work Cold Water, a vase rendered in pale ink emerges like a shadow from a dark ground, functioning both as a still life portrait and as a metaphor for the primordial form of life. In Water of Summer, dense ink and a subtly shifted perspective articulate the physical layers of light passing through a vessel, transforming an ordinary image into a poetic register of sensory experience. In resonance with Yang’s works, fuyue situates this season’s designs within a purified, milky-white world. Lines are distilled to their essence, while color is entrusted to fluidity itself—pool water, rain, the sea, and beverages. These liquids flare into saturated brilliance upon contact with the body, only to recede into stillness as they dry.
Within the gallery space, four ink paintings and the designer’s garments converge in a reciprocal dialogue. This encounter not only brings together ink and dye, but also generates a heightened resonance between concept and form, opening a fluid and permeable discourse between art and design.
About YANG Yu-Ning
Born in 1990, Yang Yu-Ning received her MFA from the Department of Fine Arts at Tunghai University and currently lives and works in Taichung. She participated in artist residencies in Taitung and Finland in 2016 and 2017, and has exhibited at the Taitung Art Museum and ONE ART Taipei. In 2021, she was selected for the TIANMEI Art Foundation’s New York Visiting Program, and in 2022 she received the Grand Prize of the JIC Contemporary Art Award. Yang’s practice originates from a subjective, image-oriented consciousness. Working with aged ink and mulberry paper, she renders gradations from density to translucency and back again in a single execution, allowing brushwork, rhythm, and thought to unfold simultaneously. Her works articulate a reflective engagement with creation and its connection to lived experience.
About fuyue
Founded in 2012 by Jerry and Kinki, fuyue operates without a fixed framework while maintaining a clear and independent core ethos. Grounded in Laozi’s philosophy of following the way of nature, the brand integrates cross-temporal artistic thinking into an aesthetic rooted in naturalness. Each collection emerges from the present moment of the twenty-first century, extending contemporary emotions and perceptions into trajectories of future growth and transformation through a process of subtle and profound reflection.
