YANG Yu-Ning Taiwan, b. 1990

Yang Yu-Ning is a Taiwanese contemporary artist who was born in 1990 and obtained a master degree of arts in Tunghai University. Currently living and working in Taichung, Taiwan, Yang has participated in group shows at Taitung Art Museum and Taiwan Annual. In 2016 and 2017, she respectively took the residency in Finland and Taitung. Yang’s practice originates from her personal awareness of imagery. By applying ink on bast papers and diversifying color from heavy to light, from light to dark, she manages to present the brushstrokes, the rhythms and ways of thinking at once. The spectrum of ink in Yang’s works show the young generation’s reflections on art and the bond with daily life.

The way of Yang using paper and ink swings between painting and imagery. Despite that the applied medium is served for ink wash painting, her artistic language speaks more on contemporary imagery. The discussion between the paintings and images is built on her thorough understanding of the medium and later-on exquisite application, additionally, with the infusion of her subjective feelings for the visual experience of images. The ink grain and wide brushstroke in Yang’s works as if a trace of fingerprint in the dust remove the marks left behind, like the delayed echoes of collapsing time.
