Booth C20

Following its first appearance in Europe at Artissima last year, this year Mind Set Art Center is pleased to present a dual exhibition by Shinji OHMAKI and SHI Jin-Hua at the Contemporary Art Sector of Art Dubai 2016. The internationally renowned art fair will hold its preview for the Contemporary Art Sector on Tuesday, 15 March and open to the public from 16 to 19 March.  You are cordially invited to attend the event.

Works from the Flotage and Echoes series by Shinji OHMAKI as well as Pen Walking series by SHI Jin-Hua will be on show. In the Flotage series, light and shadow make up layers of ever-changing multiple images with wavy lines floating on transparent cubes or mirror surfaces. Here, OHMAKI probes into the unseen memory, time and travelling history of people and space.  Memories about the past is never fixed but often altered, twisted and reconstructed along the time, and this tectonics of inner memory forms the core of this series. On the other hand, the Echoes series is about the contemplation on objects and time gradually fading away, which the artist transformed into exquisite and elegant images with unconventional media.

SHI Jin-Hua commenced his Pen Walking series in 1994 and has carried out over a hundred performance works ever since. Generally, the artist took a pencil, pen, a tube of paint or any media capable of drawing as the subject, documented its photo image and production information, and then exhausted its content to complete an image on paper or canvas. Here, the pencil could serve as a metaphor for one’s life. The resulting image composed by the marks left behind by the pencil are the deeds one has performed in a lifetime, while the exhaustion of the pencil represents the destiny of the human flesh.
